1952 Alaska Air National Guard 2017 65th Anniversary
On September 19, 2017 the Alaska Air National Guard will celebrate 65 years of service to Alaska and the United States.
The Alaska Air National Guard started out as the 8144th Air Base Squadron on Elemendorf Air Force Base in 1952 and was redesiginated the 144th Fighter Bomber Squadron in July 1953.
In September 2011 the Kulis Air National Guard Base, opened in 1955, was closed in a BRAC to relocate to Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson (JBER).
On July, 28, 29, and 30, the gates of Kulis Air National Guard Base will reopen for a reunion of anyone that entered its gates to serve on the base.
I will once again enter the gate as a "unofficial" base historian and historical property custodian. I will photograph the entire event for historical documentation.
